The surprise of the spring sports season was our slugger, Big Al, baseball star! We signed him up for a St Ann coach-pitch baseball team, and he did NOT want to play. He fought us and fought us but we pushed the issue because he had such a good season playing last year. And he was going to be on a team with his same 3 good sports buddies that he cohered with so well during basketball and soccer seasons: Ryan, Ian, and Reid. Alex was NOT excited about this prospect; until the first practice, that is, when he discovered he had the best arm on the team. And his batting was still pretty solid from last season too. Alex played 3rd base or short stop and had a REALLY exciting season. Jimmy, Jimmy's dad, Hugh, and I cheered ourselves hoarse over some great innings as we watched these boys grow and make some great plays. It's been our main hobby for the past 2 months! The team just ended their season with a 5-2 record, and Alex was a strong force on the team. And guess what? He LOVED it and made his Dad so proud out there! Coach Miles has plans for Alex to pitch next year when they move up to a kid-pitch league. Big Al may have found "his" sport. Maybe Mom and Dad DO know what they're talking about, sometimes.
