Can you believe it!? We got Nana and Pop-Pop ALL to ourselves for 10 days this Christmas! My parents escaped the cold of PA and arrived by car the Sunday before Christmas. They were our saviors in so many ways! The kids were out of school and I had signed them up for soccer camp and swim camp during the week of the 20th (to keep them out of trouble and use up some energy in the days leading up to Christmas). With Pop-Pop willing to shuttle Alex and Michaela to camps, and Nana at home to bake cookies and keep up with Sophia's running commentary (Nana gets a gold star because this little girl can wear a person out!), Jimmy and I were able to finish up projects at work and clear our desks for a relaxing week off this week. Mom and Dad, you are the greatest! We have had a lot of fun while we all worked together so well to do all that had to be done in preparation for Christmas: shopping, wrapping, baking, gingerbread house making, potty training Sophia, and decorating the house.
Since they drove here, Mom and Dad were unsure of where they would go next to spend New Year's. To Amy and Charlie's in Cleveland? Yes, they would love to but O! The SNOW! To Susan and David's in Durham? Possibly, but O! The Christmas Blizzard! To Dave and Alice's in sunny, 60 degree Florida? Now that sounds pretty good! When they learned that brother Dave, who commands a squadron and typically works 360 days a year, was taking some leave for a long New Year's weekend, that cinched the deal. So it sounds like they will leave here on Wed to drive to spend New Year's in Fort Walton Beach with Dave and Alice, and Emily, Paul, Helen, Tess, and Eric. Oh, to be retired and able to tool around the country seeing grandkids!~ What a life! We're so blessed to be on their holiday route!
